Eight Reasons to Be Selfish

Being selfish has always gotten a bad reputation. From the time you were a small child, it has been drilled into you  that being out for yourself is always wrong. Well, I’m about to blow your mind on this one: It’s okay to be selfish.

Although I wouldn’t recommend that you practice random selfishness, being selfish when necessary is something we all need to learn how to do. Too many of us have been trained to never put ourselves first. That’s wrong. The only person in the world that has all the tools and responsibility to take care of you is you. So if you don’t give yourself the things you need, there’s no guarantee that anyone else will. So if you don’t practice selfishness as needed, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

You don’t really need a reason to be selfish, but here are five reasons that you can use whenever you’re trying to trick yourself into being a pushover:

• Because nice girls always miss out on the last piece of pizza, doughnut, parking space etc, etc.
• Because you’re saving your Mother Theresa moment for a really, really good time.
• Because every time you forget to take care of yourself, a fairy loses her wings.
• Because putting others before yourself all day, every day gets old pretty quick.
• Because it doesn’t matter how many kids you have or how old they are, every woman deserves at least fifteen minutes to herself each day. (Whether you use that time to shower or sleep is your own business.)
• Because even God got to rest on the seventh day.
• Because no one else is going to do it for you.
• Because you deserve to.
